What is BWRT®
BWRT® (BrainWorking Recursive Therapy) is a science-based method that works with the unwanted emotional or psychological trigger that lies in the structures of your brain where it is not conscious. Most therapies work with the response after it has been triggered and the action has already been taken. The best that can be done at this stage is to manage and control the emotion or reaction - but BWRT® works with the 'root' of the problem, where the emotional response is triggered before it comes into our awareness. Rather than managing our behaviour and emotions (which most therapies do!), BWRT® works with the trigger of these troubling behaviours and changes the emotional response.
In computer language, we remove the old "unwanted software" and install the new software with the preferred response. BWRT® is a form of therapy that aims to quickly and permanently change the way the brain responds to stressors. It can be used to reduce or eliminate fears, habits or phobias caused by these stressors. Developed by British clinical hypnotherapist Terence Watts, BWRT® is considered a type of brain training therapy similar to EMDR and clinical hypnotherapy. One of the advantages of BWRT® is that patients do not have to talk about their past or relive traumatic experiences.
How does it work?
During a session, I guide you through different visualisation and perception processes, and you just follow my voice and instructions as best you can. The process may feel strange, but there is a precise order and speed that falls under conscious thought.
BWRT® differs from hypnotherapy in that it doesn't put you into a deep state of relaxation. Still, it induces a mental 'freeze state' (temporarily distracting you from conscious thought) to reprogram your 'reptilian brain' pattern. It is not dangerous, and you may feel giggly, floaty or sleepy for a few hours after the session, much like after a hypnotherapy or EMDR session.
I will explain the whole process to you. Although you play an essential part in it, you don't have to do much more than focus on how you feel or want to be when you have finished the work—and that could be the same day you started the process.
